The Greenway is named for Marjorie Harris Carr, a biologist from Micanopy, who, along with
her
organization, the Florida Defenders of the Environment, was instrumental in
persuading President Richard Nixon to halt construction of this unnecessary environmental
nightmare, thus saving what remained of the scenic Oklawaha River.
The Greenway includes trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. The park also crosses I-75
just south of Ocala. The "Land Bridge" was built to enable people as well as wild animals to
"get
to the other side".
The Greenway is operated by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Office of
Greenways & Trails. For more information, please visit their excellent web
site: www.dep.state.fl.us/gwt. Click on
