Native to Florida
This spectacular native shrub,
with large scarlet flowers, is a butterfly-attractor. There are 13 species of Hibiscus in
Florida (Wunderlin, 1998). Scarlet rose-mallow grows along
river banks of the southeastern U.S.-- but is rare in Alabama and Mississippi (Kartesz, 1999).
