Virginia buttonweed is a native emersed aquatic plant common throughout Florida. It is found in wet flatwoods, swamps, marshes and ditches (Wunderlin, 2003). It flowers all year.

Virginia buttonweed is found from Connecticut to Texas, and all states in between (Kartesz, 1999).
