Ulmus americana is a flowering, perennial, wetland tree.

The American elm tree is frequently found in floodplain forests from the northern coast to the central peninsula of Florida (Wunderlin, 2003). It blooms in the spring and usually occurs in wetlands (estimated probability 67%-99%), but occasionally is found in non-wetlands.

It is located throughout most of the United States and parts of Canada (Kartesz, 1999).
