This epiphytic plant is rare (An epiphyte is a plant that
grows on another plant but doesn't obtain nutrition from it).It is rarely found growing in the swamps and wet tropical hammocks of Collier, Dade and
Monroe counties in Florida (Wunderlin, 2003), as well as parts of Puerto Rico.
Here, West Indian trufted airplant is found growing in the middle of the Fakahatchee
Strand. This airplant flowers in the spring and summer.
