Two-leaf water-milfoil is a native in Florida's lakes, streams and swamps. It is occasional throughout Florida (Wunderlin, 2003). It flowers in the spring through the fall.

Myriophyllum heterophyllum is also found in the states of the eastern two-thirds of the U.S., as well as in eastern and western Canada (Kartesz, 1999).
