Celestial lily is endemic in Florida - it is found nowhere else on earth (Kartesz, 1999). It occasionally occurs in the swamps, marshes and wet flatwoods of the central peninsula, Flagler and Broward counties. Celestial lily flowers in the fall. There is one species of Nemastylis occurring in Florida (Wunderlin, 2003).
