Giant brake fern is not native to Florida.
This exotic escaped from cultivation and is occasionally found growing in the swamps and rockland hammocks
of the central and southern peninsula (Wunderlin, 2003). Giant brake fern is native to the Old World but escaped from cultivation. It is one of
four Pteris species that have escaped into the natural areas of the state.
Giant brake fern is also an exotic plant in Puerto Rico (Kartesz, 1999).
