Cherokee rose is native to
China but escaped cultivation. It is occasionally found in the moist hammocks and disturbed sites of the northern and central
peninsula, and the central and western panhandle of Florida (Wunderlin, 2003). It flowers in
the spring.
While there are many, many native Rosa species in North America, there
are also a number of non-native exotics, escaped from cultivation. Cherokee rose is found in all
the most southeasterly states (Kartesz, 1999).
