There are two species of
sowthistle in Florida, both non-native. Common sowthistle, native
to Europe, is a frequent invader of disturbed sites nearly throughout
Florida (Wunderlin, 2003). It flowers from spring through summer.
Sonchus oleraceus usually occurs in non-wetlands (estimated probability 67%-99%), but is occasionally found in wetlands (estimated probability 1%-33%).
This exotic species is found in all U.S. states, including Alaska, and
almost all of Canada, and is found in Greenland (Kartesz, 1999).
