Tillandsia species are flowering bromeliads. They are perennial wetland plants.

Tillandsia species have a southeast distribution within the USA (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas) and are also found in Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands. They are present, but rare in Arkansas, Arizona, New Mexico and Virginia. They have been extirpated from Maryland (Kartesz, 1999). Tillandsia species can be found all throughout Florida (Wunderlin, 2003).
