This native is frequent to open, disturbed sites from northern Florida, south
to the central peninsula (Wunderlin, 2003). It flowers in the spring and is equally likely to occur in wetlands or non-wetlands (estimated probability 34%-66%).
There are more than 30 species of Tradescantia in the U.S.; 9 of them
occurring in Florida. This species, common spiderwort, may be found in all
states of the eastern half of the U.S. (Kartesz, 1999).
