Water paspalum is a grass.
stems to 18 in. long, thick, spongy, sprawling, mostly submersed, dark roots at
nodes; leaf blades flat, lance-shaped, sandpapery, tapering at both ends, to 10
in. long, to 1 in. wide, fine lined; sheaths loose, purple spots;
inflorescence "flattened", to 6 in. long, inflorescence axis (rachis) winged,
with 20-50 branches, branches spreading, branches about 2 in. long; spikelets
solitary, to 1/16 in. long, on one side of inflorescence branch
