Ardisia escallonioides

Marlberry

Native to Florida

Species Overview

Marlberry is a native small tree that might easily be confused with the invasive shoebutton, Ardisia elliptica. Ardisia escallonioides is frequently found in the hammocks of Flagler County, in addition to the central and southern peninsula of Florida. There are three types of Ardisia in Florida. (Wunderlin, 2003). Of all the U.S., Marlberry is only present in FL (Kartesz, 1999).
