Species Overview

Woodwardia areolata is a flowering, perennial, wetland fern that occurs almost always (estimated probability 99%) under natural conditions in wetlands.

The netted chain fern is commonly found in wet hammocks and swamps from the northern counties south to the central peninsula of Florida (Wunderlin, 2003). It is located throughout the eastern United States (Kartesz, 1999).
