Curtis Rainbolt, Ph.D.

Professor

Discipline Specialization:

Dr. Curtis Rainbolt's research (50%) and extension (50%) program focuses on weed biology and applied weed control in sugarcane, sod, and other crops grown in the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA). He works in cooperation with agricultural chemical companies to generate data for the labeling and registration of new herbicides. Currently, he is evaluating combinations of current and experimental herbicides for preemergence and postemergence weed control. Long term research includes gathering information on the biology and ecology of weed species in the EAA for the development of weed control decision tools.

Current Research

• Preemergence weed control programs for sugarcane.
• Weed control in sod production.
• Weed population dynamics in green cane harvest systems.
• Relationship between Southern Chinch Bugs and weeds in turf.
• Herbicide and water table interactions in sugarcane.
• Biology and ecology of weeds in sugarcane.
