This magnificent palm tree is a
rare native of the swamps and cypress sloughs of Collier and Dade Counties,
Florida (Wunderlin, 1998). It is also frequently sold in the nursery trade. The
royal palm also occurs in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands (Kartesz, 1999).
