Sonchus oleraceus
common sowthistle
Non-Native in Florida
There are two species of
sowthistle in Florida, both non-native. Common sowthistle, native
to Europe, is a frequent invader of disturbed sites nearly throughout
Florida (Wunderlin, 1998). It flowers from spring through summer.
This exotic species is found in all U.S. states, including Alaska, and
almost all of Canada, and is found in Greenland (Kartesz, 1999).
